The Hometown Throwdown in Review

Roller derby bouts do not fall out of the sky ready to titillate. I know this now.
Rockin’ City Roller Girls’ hosted our first home bout April 28th matched up against Assassination City’s Ruby’s Revenge. I suppose I had never given much thought to the preparation and care given to producing a roller derby bout until I started mentally ticking off the components. Roller derby is a spectacle of the senses. Athletic prowess is always the cornerstone to any bout, however roller derby is uniquely synonymous with a certain level of showmanship and color one will not find at a typical sporting event. The production of a roller derby bout is an interesting house of cards marrying a high-octane sport with a musical backbone and a dramatic flair. This bout couldn’t happen unless we had all hands on deck…lucky for us we have a deep bench of volunteers.……

Purple Reign-in-blood is a true asset to Rockin’ City. I love her amped-up writing style, and true enthusiasm for the league. She’s a credit to us all, and this is definitely worth a read.
She had a dream where I was mad at her, and Smash said I yelled at everyone so hard at the meetings that now I’m infecting their sleep.
Reign likes it when I yell at her.

RCRG Skater of the Week: Mean Streak
Mean Streak is a blocker with some serious anger management issues. When she sees jammers trying to get all up in her personal space, she flies right at them in uncontrollable rage. Meanie spends most of her track time employing her most lethal assets; good luck getting past her when she’s got room to swing her butt around. She probably has a good side, but usually when she turns the other cheek, it’s bad news for you.
Off the track, Mean Streak is just as vicious. She’s in the cutthroat business of online marketing, and she knows how to make every word count.Likes: Herself, flattering booty shorts
Dislikes: Pretty much nothing, except for black licorice. That stuff is foul.Hey, I know this girl!

Aunt: So how’s roller derby going?
Me: Pretty good.
Aunt: I remember watching roller derby a long time ago.
Me: Well, it’s not exactly the same as the derby from decades ago.
Aunt: Oh? So do you elbow players like this, in the face? (makes upward thrusting motion with her elbow)
Me: No. That’s not legal.
Aunt: (disappointed) Oh … So what DO you do??
Driving into Louisiana for six days surrounded by family. Wish me luck that everyone makes it out alive.
